Shortly after midnight on January 30, 1968, Nha Trang, headquarters of the U.S. I Field Force, was the first of five provincial capitals in II Corps to be attacked. This marked the beginning of the Tet Offensive.
The Nha Trang Air Base was first opened by the French Air Force as a training center for the RVNAF in 1951.
