| German Made Mauser bayonet for the 1893 and 1895 Mauser rifles. Stamped with "Simpson and Co. Suhl Mfg". The blade is 10" long with 15" overall. This has the early leather scabbard with metal throat and tip. Serial number is stamped on cross guard. Blade is worn but not pitted. Grips have some dings and dents but not cracked. Press stud works fine. |

| The term bayonette itself dates back to the second half of the 16th century. Pierre Borel wrote in 1655 that a kind of long-knife called a bayonette was made in Bayonne but does not give any further description so it is not known if it was meant to be attached to a firearm. | |
